- My mother was an expert seamstress and often did alterations on costly garments. She once told me that I would learn more about sewing by taking a well made garment apart than I would from any pattern. How true I discovered this statement was! Recently I was looking over a pattern that a friend gave me. She wants me to help her sew aprons for Christmas gifts. After studying the sewing instructions a bit I came to a familiar conclusion; if I purchased a finely crafted apron it would not be put together this way. Who writes these instructions anyway?!

new tote bag! A client had an old mail bag that had belonged to a family member and we made a tote and cosmetic bags utilizing it as well as making a cool and functional memorial. The belt that we used as straps had also belonged to this dear deceased one.

This was a fun alterations job. This beautiful young gal's dress was too long and did not look youthful. So we shortened the several layers of organdy that has the fun curly edging. The curly effect is accomplished using 80# test fishing line if you can believe it. You'll never guess how the curly effect is achieved!
